Hillsborough Man Pleaded Guilty To Impersonating Federal Officer: U.S. DOJ
A man pretended to be a U.S. Army special agent while going door-to-door in a Hillsborough neighborhood, the U.S. DOJ said.
SUN CITY CENTER, FL — A Hillsborough County man pleaded guilty to two counts of false impersonation of an officer, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
Marcus Jose Luis Brand, 20, of Sun City Center faces a maximum penalty of six years in federal prison. His sentencing date hasn’t yet been set.
Brand falsely claimed on Oct. 3, 2024, to be a U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division special agent and conducted canvas interviews of several individuals at their homes in a Central Florida neighborhood, the U.S. DOJ said.

He asked the victims questions, stating he was investigating a dispute between some of the neighbors.
Brand has never been a U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division special agent and has never had authority to conduct investigations, the DOJ said. Several of his interactions with the victims were captured on home surveillance cameras.

More than a week later, on Oct. 18, 2024, Brand attended a football game at Lennard High School in Ruskin wearing a badge and handcuffs and, again, falsely claimed to be a U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division special agent, the DOJ said.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.
