Wrong-Way Driver Arrested in Tampa

A 46-year-old Tampa man faces DUI charges after a police officer spotted him driving the wrong way on Nebraska Avenue.

According to the Tampa Police Department, an officer was heading southbound on Nebraska Avenue from Linebaugh Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Saturday when he saw the man driving south in the northbound lanes. The officer stopped him and conducted field sobriety tests.

Lale Atkinson of Tampa was charged with DUI.

Eleven people have died in wrong-way crashes on Bay area roads since the year began. Law enforcement agencies throughout the area have been cracking down on the potentially deadly driving behavior in recent weeks.
