Start with these practical questions:
• Can you choose heating and cooling independently, or does the building use a seasonal changeover?
• Is there one thermostat for the whole apartment, or separate controls?
• How are heating and cooling charges billed, and which charges are separate from rent?
• Who handles filter changes, and what instructions apply to residents?
During your visit, notice where the vents and controls are relative to the areas you plan to use. Ask for an explanation rather than adjusting unfamiliar equipment yourself. A short tour cannot establish year-round comfort or predict your utility bill.
The goal isn’t the fanciest thermostat. It’s understanding the setup well enough to compare it with your preferences and total housing budget.
