ATLANTA — A Fulton County judge ruled Thursday that 17 rap lyrics performed by rapper Young Thug are admissible in the entertainer's closely watched criminal street gang and racketeering case in Atlanta, according to media reports.

The trial against nationally-famed rapper Jeffery "Young Thug" Williams' and Young Slime Life recently began after prosecution accused YSL of being a criminal street gang and violating Georgia's Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

More than 20 co-defendants were initially arrested in the case, but several have taken plea deals in recent months.

Williams has been incarcerated in Fulton County for at least a year awaiting trial on his charges, Rolling Stone reported.

Both Atlanta News First and Fox 5 Atlanta reported Thursday the case took a turn when Fulton County Chief Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville ruled some of Williams' lyrics can be used as evidence in the case.

"Defense attorneys have been arguing the rapper’s lyrics have nothing to do with his alleged crimes and that using of the lyrics could sway the jury," Atlanta News First reported.

Meanwhile, prosecutors maintain Williams' lyrics can prove he and five other defendants were YSL members, an alleged street gang affiliated with the nationwide Bloods gang, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
