After a 22-year law-enforcement career and recognition as an Augusta National Hometown Hero, she'll help guide the agency's work serving citizens from the Municipal Building downtown.

2. Planning Commission approves special exception to convert school to juvenile justice center (theaugustapress.com) — A key planning decision just moved Augusta closer to turning the former Craig Houghton Elementary School on Fourth Street into a consolidated juvenile justice center, centralizing services now scattered across four locations. Officials say the project will expand space for felony court, address jail overcrowding, and bring counseling and treatment programs for youth under one roof in the city.

3. Manhunt continues after Augusta suspect allegedly fires at deputies (theaugustapress.com) — Richmond County deputies are still searching for 35-year-old Donte Godwin after he allegedly fired a shotgun at officers during a confrontation Thursday evening in an Augusta neighborhood near Lovers Lane and Tybee Court. Residents are urged not to approach him, watch for a 5-foot-11, 290-pound man in teal shorts and a black shirt, and call investigators with any information.

4. 12 On Your Side Investigates: No supervisor approval required before RCSO Flock misuse cases (wrdw.com) — Augusta residents are learning that Richmond County deputies could once search Flock license-plate-reader cameras without supervisor approval, a loophole Sheriff Eugene Brantley says preceded the firing and arrest of six employees. The sheriff has now tightened access, added tracking requirements, and emphasized that the system must only be used for legitimate investigations, with audits and data safeguards in place.

5. Jags Split Opening Day of Augusta/USC Aiken Invitational (augustajags.com) — Augusta University volleyball opened the Augusta/USC Aiken Invitational at home by storming back from two sets down to beat Lee before dropping a tight four-set match to North Greenville.
