Canton Officer Uses Narcan To Save Overdose Victim Found in Motel Room
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Econo Lodge on Keith Drive.

Another officer in Cherokee County has deployed an anti-drug overdose remedy to save the life of a resident.
On Oct. 21, Corporal Stephen Delman with the Canton Police Department responded to a motel room at Econo Lodge at 138 Keith Drive and found an unresponsive man ”lying motionless on the floor of the motel room.”
“On the night stand, Cpl. Delman observed a syringe, spoon and plastic baggie,” Canton police said in a press release.

Delman, according to Canton police, believed the victim overdosed on drugs and immediately administered Narcan, an opioid receptor blocker is used to reverse drug overdoses through nasal administration.
When administered quickly, it results in temporarily reversing an overdose of heroin, codeine, fentanyl, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, methadone, morphine and oxycodone.

Delman and other Canton police supervisory personnel recently received training on opiate overdoses how to administer the antidote, also known in its generic form as naloxone.
As the male regained consciousness, responders from the Canton Fire Department arrived and provided follow-up care before transporting him to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for treatment.
Along with Canton’s most recent incident, officers in both Woodstock and Holly Springs have also administered Narcan to reverse the effects of an overdose.
Narcan is widely used by medical emergency personnel across the country and law enforcement agencies are starting to deploy the antidote to its uniform officers.
