Driver Indicted In Crash That Killed Canton Teen
Tyler Land, 17, died in the April 1, 2017, crash reported along Ball Ground Highway near Evergreen Road.

CANTON, GA — A Cherokee County grand jury has indicted the driver behind the wheel of a Jeep in a fatal head-on collision that killed a 17-year-old Canton resident. The grand jury earlier this month indicted Tyler Blake Callahan on one count each of homicide by vehicle in the first degree and DUI drugs (less safe), court records show.
Tyler Land, 17, was the passenger in a vehicle that left the roadway and crashed into a tree in 2017, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office previously told Patch. Deputies were dispatched during the early morning hours of Saturday, April 1 to Ball Ground Highway near Evergreen Road, which is north of Fate Conn Road near Canton.
The vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee driven Callahan, veered off the two-lane highway before it came to a rest against the tree, the agency previously reported. Land was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the indictment, Callahan allegedly had enough marijuana in his bloodstream "to the extent that it was less safe for him to drive." He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges outlined in the indictment at 9 a.m. April 6 in courtroom 2A at the Cherokee County Justice Center.
