Poole Named Cherokee School Board District 1 Member

Another new face will soon join the Cherokee County School Board.

The board at its Thursday, Sept. 3 meeting appointed Canton resident Kelly Poole to the vacant District 1 seat.

Poole, an accountant and longtime PTA and community volunteer, will serve in the seat, which was vacated when Kyla Cromer was appointed School Board chair.

She will be sworn in as soon as authorized by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, most likely at the Oct. 15 board meeting.

District 1 includes the BridgeMill and Sixes area, and the term expires Dec. 31, 2016.

The school board originally received five applicants for the post: Poole; Sanford Chandler, who is the former president of Chattahoochee Technical College and most recently retired from the Technical College System of Georgia; Rob Logan, city manager and finance director with the city of Holly Springs; and retired teachers James Nicholson and William Wuth.

Chandler later withdrew his name from consideration.

Poole, who provides bookkeeping and accounting services for a tax attorney, has a BBA in accounting from St. Mary’s University. She and husband James have two children.

Poole is a member of the Cherokee County Republican Women’s club, member of the PTA where she’s held several elected officer positions, co-president of the Woodstock High School Track Booster Club and a Georgia PTA Finance Committee member.
