BBB Warns Consumers: 1991, Inc. Is Not a Shopper's Best Friend

Ordering from online retailer 1991, Inc.? Might want to read this first.

BBB Serving Metro Atlanta, Athens & Northeast Georgia opened its file for 1991, Inc. when we were notified by the BBB Serving Washington DC that the company had relocated to our area from Washington, DC. The company now indicates that its principal address is 32 Patterson Rd # 464082, Lawrenceville, GA 30044 which, according to USPS, is the address for the Lawrenceville Post Office.

1991, Inc.’s website, www.1991inc.com, is no longer valid. They provide an email address of 1991inc.payments@gmail.com.

As to date, BBB has processed 83 complaints against 1991, Inc. Of the 83, the company did not respond to 55 and in one matter, the complaint was closed as “delayed response.” 1991, Inc. currently has an F rating with BBB.

While performing a review of this firm’s complaints, we noticed a pattern indicating merchandise purchased from the company had not been delivered. Complainants indicated that although the company does respond to them via e-mail promising their order will be shipped the following day, they had been given a tracking number which was incorrect and merchandise was never received.

Consumers also allege that their credit card was charged immediately upon ordering. Other allegations indicate consumers are not informed there will be a 4-6 week delivery time until after they receive an email confirmation for their order. Consumers allege some orders have not been received after waiting eight months.

BBB contacted the business via registered letter concerning the pattern of complaints. The company signed for and returned their notification without response concerning the pattern. A second notification was issued with the same conclusion.

BBB feels that it is important for consumers to educate themselves before making online purchases by locating and reading a company’s policies including the return policy. 1991, Inc. has a return policy on their FAQ page stating that all sales are final.

The Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA) and the Mail or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule offer protections and procedures for consumers so they don’t have to pay for merchandise they ordered but never received.
