Black Mold: Paulding Japanese Restaurant Fails Inspection
The restaurant received a 62/U on its inspection, which was conducted on Wednesday.

DALlAS, GA — Black mold found in the cooler and other problems lead a Paulding County steak and sushi restaurant to fail its recent health inspection.
Atami Steak & Sushi, at 2538 Cedarcrest Rd. in Acworth, scored a failing 62/U on the inspection. The restaurant had earned a 91/A on its most recent inspection in June, but notched a mediocre 70/C after an inspection in May.
According to the inspection report, a "black mold like build-up" was found on gaskets of a reach-in cooler and one of the gaskets on that cooler was broken. The bottom of a prep table was rusty, tempura was being stored very close to a hand-washing sink and tofu and fried onions that had been prepared 10 days earlier were discovered. (They should have been thrown away no later than Saturday, the report said.)

Sauces, raw eggs and noodles were being stored at a temperature that wasn't cool enough and there was no hand-washing soap or paper towels at a hand-washing sink in the kitchen. The report said a person in charge was found not to know basic food safety and health information.
According to state regulations, Atami will be inspected again some time in the next 10 days. If the issues found during the initial inspection have not been addressed, inspectors could shut the restaurant down until the problems are fixed.
