Black And Pink Mold: Dallas Restaurant Fails Health Inspection

The restaurant scored a failing 56/U on its health inspection, which was conducted on Monday.

DALLAS, GA — Black mold was found on feta cheese and both black and pink mold was discovered in the ice machine during a recent health inspection at a Dallas bar and restaurant.

The Dallas Public House, at 1305 Cedarcrest Rd., scored a failing 56/U on the inspection, which was conducted Monday.

According to the report, inspectors found a "black, mold-like substance" on some feta cheese in the restaurant's kitchen. They also found a "pink and black mold-like substance" in the ice machine.

The report said the person in charge at the pub "lacks active managerial control." That person was unaware of health information needed for running a restaurant and didn't have the proper equipment for cleaning up if a customer gets sick at the restaurant, the report said.

Several food items — including shredded cheese, cooked chicken, waffle batter — were found being stored in the kitchen's cooler without being covered.

Foods like sliced and shredded cheese and homemade ranch dressing didn't have date markings to show how old they were. And employee was cooking while wearing a charm bracelet and squirt bottles of several different sauces were not marked.

A reach-in cooler was broken, shelves in the walk-in cooler were rusty and multiple foods were being stored at the wrong temperature. There was also mold on the top of a prep cooler and standing water in the reach-in cooler.

The moldy food and foods found to be out of temperature or uncovered was thrown out and employees cleaned areas that were found to be moldy or dirty, according to the report.

Dallas Public House had scored an 87/B on its last inspection, in March 2016, and the exact same score on a November 2015 inspection.

According to state policy, the restaurant will be inspected again some time in the next 10 days. If it has not fixed problems cited on the failing inspection report, state officials could force the restaurant to shut down until it does.
