GA Rep. 'Will Never Back Down' After Calls For Resignation
After another congressman said he wants to expel Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress, she said she "will never back down" or give up.

DALLAS, GA — Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is fighting back after her fellow congressman said he would be seeking to expel her from the U.S. House of Representatives.
California Congressman Jimmy Gomez said he is seeking to expel Greene, citing the endorsement of sedition, domestic terrorism and political violence.
Green tweeted a "message to the mob," saying she will never back down or give up.

Gomez announced his intention on Wednesday, saying Greene, who represented Georgia's 14th District, has "amplified conspiracy theories that the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks were an inside job and the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was staged." Now, he's saying a string of recent media reports have confirmed that Greene "had previously supported social media posts calling for political violence against the Speaker of the House, members of Congress, and former President Barack Obama."
"Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell," Gomez said in a press release. "Her very presence in office represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government, and it is with their safety in mind, as well as the security of institutions and public servants across our country, that I call on my House colleagues to support my resolution to immediately remove Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from this legislative body."

Brookhaven state Rep. Matthew Wilson, a Democrat, and more than 40 other Democratic state representatives are also calling for the immediate resignation of Greene, per a Friday news release.
Wilson introduced a resolution to the Georgia General Assembly calling for Greene, who represents Georgia's 14th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, to resign immediately. The resolution is sponsored by more than 40 other Democratic state representatives; however, the resolution has yet to be assigned a tracking number in the legislative system, according to the release.
"After the events at the United States Capitol on January 6, and after more information has been uncovered from her social media posts both prior to and in the time since assuming office, it has become abundantly clear that Marjorie Taylor Greene is not fit to hold public office," Wilson said in the release. "Representative Greene has violated her oath of office by willfully inciting violence against her fellow citizens, and needs to resign to allow the people of Georgia's 14th Congressional District the opportunity to elect a representative that will not hold the public trust in such contempt."
In his request for her removal, Gomez cited several reports about Green, including a CNN KFile from Tuesday that "uncovered social media activity and posts by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene calling for violence against Democrats in elected office," he said.
The report says that in 2018, Greene replied on Facebook to a supporter who asked about hanging Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying "stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off."
Greene also liked a Facebook comment from 2019 that said a “bullet to the head would be quicker” than an election for removing Pelosi from office, and messages about executing FBI agents working for the “deep state," Gomez said.
Additionally, Greene posted a meme in September 2020 of "her with a gun pointed toward progressive members of Congress," he said.
I don’t need to explain why @RepMTG is a clear and present danger to Congress and our democracy. She did it herself. And she must go. I’m introducing a resolution to expel her from Congress immediately: https://t.co/45KyC59WDU

Greene issued a statement on Tuesday after the CNN report was published, saying "Fake News CNN is writing yet another hit piece on me focused on my time before running for political office. I will never back down to the enemy of the American people and neither should you."

The backlash could stop Greene from serving on the Education and Labor Committee, after House Democrats denounced GOP leaders for tapping Greene, amid a growing outcry over her past comments challenging the veracity of deadly school shootings.
Pelosi called it "appalling" that Republicans selected someone who "has mocked the killing of little children" to be on a panel that oversees education.
"What could they be thinking?" the California Democrat asked during a news conference Thursday. "Or is thinking too generous a word for what they might be doing? It's absolutely appalling."
A member of the House Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Jahana Hayes, a Democrat from Connetticut, has circulated a letter calling for Greene to be replaced.
It's unlikely that Democratic leaders will attempt to expel Greene, who was elected to her first House term in November. But her placement on the Education and Labor Committee could be reversed without a House vote: Those committee assignments are at the whims of each party's leadership.
