DALLAS, GA — A dispute between a substitute bus driver and parents led to a police investigation and the suspension of the driver Wednesday afternoon, according to the Dallas Police Department and Paulding County school officials.

The substitute driver was covering a shift for an Allgood Elementary School bus driver who was sick at the time of the incident, according to school officials.

The driver was trying to help younger students exit the bus at the Old Harris Road/Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway intersection, where a backup occurred. School officials said several students usually get off at this specific bus stop.

"A backup resulted, and the situation soon escalated as parents waited at the stop for their students," school officials said in a news release.

The school district did not fully detail the nature of the incident, but authorities said they are investigating the dispute.

The driver was suspended, and there will be an internal investigation, school officials said.

A supervisor helped the remaining students safely get home, school officials said.
