Dallas, Ga., Man Sentenced for Strangling Estranged Wife in N.Y. 3 Decades Ago

A Georgia man who was found guilty in November of strangling his estranged wife to death nearly three decades ago in Syracuse, N.Y., has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Ronald Meadow, 61, who was arrested last year after DNA linked him to the crime, was found guilty of second-degree murder for the 1985 strangulation death of Colleen Meadow in 1985, Syracuse.com reported. The Onondaga County, N.Y., deliberated 6 ½ hours before reaching a verdict.

Meadow, listed with a Dallas address in jail records, was arrested last December in Douglas County, where he was working for a local business. He was taken into custody by the Douglas County Fugitive Unit, Douglas County Uniform Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Officers from New York State Police.

Meadow was always a suspect in Colleen Meadow’s death, but there wasn’t enough evidence to bring charges until last year, Syracuse.com reported, when DNA evidence from underneath his finger nails linked him to the crime.

Colleen Meadow’s body was found tied up in her Syracuse apartment after she didn’t show up for work.
