Deputies Rescue Brothers' Birthday Party
When things went badly at two Paulding County brothers' birthday party, deputies from the sheriff's office stepped in to save the day.

DALLAS, GA — Maybe it was the busy holiday season. Or maybe it was just bad luck. But when Paulding County brothers Connor and Nolen celebrated their birthdays with a party on Saturday there was some bad news — nobody they invited could come.
For one reason or another no friends showed up at the party. The boys, understandably, were upset. So their mom, doing what moms do, took a chance. Their birthday party had a law-enforcement theme, complete with a cake topped with toy officers and a police car and wrapped in police crime-scene tape.
So, she picked up the phone and called Paulding County's E-911 non-emergency number. And she asked — could any deputies come to the party and make it special for the boys?

The answer they got added a new wrinkle to the classic oath "to protect and serve."
"Our deputies were thrilled to attend Connor and Nolen’s party in order to make it special for them," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.

The boys got to hang out with several deputies, check out the inside of a patrol car and even meet a very special deputy — K-9 Verro.
According to the sheriff's office, Dep. Trey Andrews, Dep. Megan Moore, Dep. Steven Tavalez and Dep. Brandon Kilgore, Verro's handler, showed up to enjoy the party.
The special assignment was popular with the sheriff's office's Facebook followers.
"This melted my heart," one follower wrote. "Thank you to the officers that brightened these little boys' party."
"Awesome, guys," wrote another. "I’m sure these boys will always remember that ... plus you got free birthday cake. Seems like a win, win."
