Fox With Rabies Attacks Dallas Resident

DALLAS, GA — There has been a rabies warning put out in the City of Dallas. The Marshal's Bureau received a call concerning an attack by a fox on a resident in the West Memorial Drive area. The fox tested positive for rabies.

The City of Dallas warns, please use caution around any unfamiliar animals and have your pets vaccinated. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Marshal's Office or Police Department at 770-443-8100.

An 11-year-old boy was bitten by a rabid dog Feb. 27 near Stone Mountain after two Rottweilers escaped from a residence in the Rivercliff subdivision near Anniston Road and showed up at the home of a nearby family. The boy was bitten when the two Rottweilers attacked his dog, which was on a leash, as he was moving it from a kennel to the garage.

Gwinnett County offered ideas to protect your pet from rabies:

· Ensure pets get rabies vaccine regularly.
· Keep pets on your property.
· Don't leave garbage or pet food outside; it may attract wild or stray animals.
· Stay away from wild, sick, hurt, or dead animals; don't pick up or move sick or hurt animals.
· Remember it's illegal and dangerous to keep wild animals like raccoons, rabbits, and foxes as pets.
· Teach your children not to go near, tease, or play with wild animals or strange dogs and cats.
