Hiram Police Get Cash For Body Cameras

The safety grant came from the Georgia Municipal Association.

HIRAM, GA — Police officers in Hiram will be getting body cameras thanks to a grant announced Thursday.

The Georgia Municipal Association announced it has sent a safety-grant check for $4,800 to the city for the cameras.

The GMA Safety and Liability Management Grant program was introduced in 2000 to provide a financial incentive to assist members in improving their employee safety through training and the purchase of equipment or services.

"This program allows each city to stretch their budget dollars and provide a safer work environment for their employees," said Eileen Thomas, marketing field manager for the Atlanta-based GMA.

Since the program began, more tha 130 cities have received grant money. More than 500 grants have been approved, totaling nearly $1.5 million to fund items such as bulletproof vests, training videos, confined space entry equipment, reflective safety vests, fire department turnout gear, and police department in-vehicle video systems.

GMA is a a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, education, employee benefit and consulting services to its over 500 member cities.
