Medical staff at Wellstar Paulding Hospital, where the woman was taken, said McLaughlin's actions were credited with saving her life.

According to the woman's family, she is back home in Virginia now and has recovered well.

Hiram Police Chief Todd Vande Zande nominated McLaughlin for the Hall of Fame award. The organization's committee reviewed the incident and found that his actions warranted receiving the award.

In a news release, the police department said the woman did not want to be publicly named, but asked that her thanks be sent to McLaughlin, the Hiram Police Department and Paulding County EMS for saving her life.

All Hiram Police officers are trained and certified in CPR by the American Heart Association, the release said.

All of their patrol vehicles are equipped with an external defibrillator to assist in medical emergencies.
