Meet Gwinnett's Taylor Alexander From 'The Voice'
Raised in Flowery Branch and Buford, Alexander got coaches' attention with a surprising song choice in the blind auditions.
FLOWERY BRANCH, GA — Gwinnett County has a voice on "The Voice," and it's one that's already turned heads, and at least one chair, thanks to an unlikely blind audition.

Taylor Alexander, 25, grew up in Gwinnett County. His big moment came last week, when on the NBC singing show's blind auditions, he pulled off a twangy, traditional-country version of Cher's "Believe."

Coach, and Maroon 5 front man, Adam Levine was the lone judge to turn his chair around, making Alexander automatically a member of his team.

- After growing up in Flowery Branch and Buford, Alexander has been living in Nashville for the past three years.
- Most of his family still lives in Georgia.
- According to Rolling Stone, he grew up listening to country music, but turned to punk rock in his teen years before beginning to blend styles with his own tunes.
- He sings for the Nashville-based roots country band Young America.
- "That was the single craziest thing that I've ever heard ... . I pressed my button because I actually thought 'This dude's really good, and he's doing Cher.' Who does that?" — coach Adam Levine, on on Alexander's classic-country take on Cher's "Believe."
- Though he didn't turn around for Alexander, "The Voice" coach Blake Shelton compared Alexander's style to BR549, a traditional country act founded in Nashville in 1993.
- As recently as a couple of weeks ago, Alexander was still picking up odd jobs to help make ends meet, including construction and painting.
- "My biggest dream will always be to write and perform the kinds of songs that can move and inspire people the way my favorite artists have inspired me," Alexander recently told The Gainesville Times.
- Alexander on Flowery Branch (once again from Gainesville Times): "The town is really rich with southern charm, hardworking folks and a sense of community, which in a lot of ways is the root of country music."
