A Facebook post about a needle and syringe being in the handle of a gas pump is likely a hoax, according to the Hiram Police Department.

HIRAM, GA — A Facebook post about a needle and a syringe being in the handle of a gas pump is likely a hoax, according to the Hiram Police Department. "Regardless, please remain vigilant for hazards such as the one reported in this post as they have happened in other areas of the country," reads a Hiram Police Facebook post made Wednesday.
It was pointed out to police that a Facebook post had been circulating which said the following:
"OK, I thought this looked suspicious...I pulled around to the other pump. And then I walked in the store told the clerk he came out and looked at it. At that time a officer pulled through. He stopped the officer and they both went back over to the pump. Then the office[er] puts on a glove pulls out a syringe and needle and puts it in a baggie.. I've seen post like these but NEVER really thought much about it... It's real people be careful."The post has since been deleted and the original publisher has failed to respond to a request for more information.

After investigating the incident, the Hiram Police have said it's probably not real.
"The post has since been deleted and the original publisher has failed to respond to a request for more information. At this time due to dispatch not having the incident logged, clerks at both BP’s in Hiram and none of our officers or Paulding Deputies having any knowledge of responding to the incident, we are determining the incident likely did not occur and was an attempt at gaining a viral post on social media," reads a Hiram Police Department Facebook post made Wednesday.
