New Mayor Takes Office In Dallas

The city's previous mayor is currently running for state senate.

DALLAS, GA—Dallas residents officially have a new mayor.

City Councilmember at Large James Kelly, who formerly served as mayor pro-tem, was recently sworn in as the city's newest mayor, according to city officials.

Kelly replaces Boyd L. Austin Jr., who previously served as the city's mayor for seven terms.

A lifelong resident of Paulding County, Austin is currently running as a Republican for state senate to represent District 31, which encompasses Haralson and Polk counties and the northern portion of Paulding County.

Now that Kelly replaces Austin, City Councilmember Mike Cason, who represents Ward 2, will serve as the city's new mayor pro-tem.
