The DOT says drivers on this portion of the highway are likely to encounter speed restrictions, stop-and-go traffic, single-lane closures and possible delays. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
"Georgia DOT wants to constrict traffic flow in this area as little as possible, but delays at times are almost unavoidable," said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the DOT office in Cartersville.

"We have made every effort to minimize the impact this construction project has on the heavy traffic in the area. Informing the public in advance of construction work, working at night and scheduling the lane closures after the evening rush hour, and reopening the roadway before the morning rush hour are only a few examples of these efforts."
Georgia DOT awarded a contract to W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta, Georgia, valued at nearly $2 million for a construction project to resurface an 8-mile portion of the highway.
This construction project is scheduled to be entirely completed by the end of October.
