Paulding Detention Officer Retires After 28 Years

For much of his tenure, Mike Henry was responsible for running the commissary at the Paulding County Jail.

DALLAS, GA — A Paulding County detention officer has retired after nearly 28 years on the job.

A reception was held July 20 at the sheriff's office detention center to honor the service of officer Mike Henry. Henry retired on April 7 after nearly 28 years of service with Paulding County. He began working with the sheriff's office on September 21, 1989.

During his tenure with the county, Henry's primary responsibility was working in and supervising the commissary.

The commissary provides inmates with items that they do not normally get provided by the jail such as snack items, sodas, writing supplies and the like. These items are all purchased by the inmate.

Henry was responsible for ordering all of the items available in the commissary and making sure each inmate’s order was correct.

"Detention Officer Henry will be sorely missed by his co-workers and friends at the Sheriff’s office," spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson said in a written statement. "His hard work and dependability have been a true testament of his character over the years. We hope Detention Officer Henry enjoys his well- deserved retirement from law enforcement."
