Paulding Man Severely Beats Blind Woman: Police

Charles Brandon Ayers is wanted on aggravated assault charges out of both Paulding and Douglas counties for separate alleged beatings.

DALLAS, GA — Paulding County authorities are seeking a man accused of severely beating a blind woman over the course of several days.

Charles Brandon Ayers, 37, was last seen on April 29, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Ayers is wanted in connection to the beating of Tammy Usher. Usher, who is blind, was hospitalized in Cartersville with facial fractures, lacerations, contusions and severe bruising.

Usher and Ayers had been lifelong acquaintances up until the time the beating took place, the sheriff's office said. The two left her Paulding County home on April 26 in a truck owned by her family.

They were gone for three days before Ayers finally dropped Usher off at the Loves Truck Stop in Emerson and asked a friend to take her to the hospital, authorities said.

Ayers is wanted on charges of aggravated battery and theft by conversion in Paulding County. He is also wanted in Douglas County on aggravated assault charges for allegedly beating another woman.

The sheriff's office said Ayers may be traveling in the truck he stole from the victim's family, a silver 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with Georgia tag RFZ 5853.
