Paulding Residents Urged To Prepare For Severe Weather

February 6-10 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia.

DALLAS, GA — Citing the recent tornadoes in south Georgia, Paulding County safety officials are urging residents to be pro-active in preparing for harsh weather conditions.

February 6-10 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia.

Throughout the week, each day will focus on a different severe weather threat faced by Georgians. Paulding County EMA is encouraging all residents to dedicate time to practicing emergency response procedures and learning how to deal with each potential disaster.

"Severe weather can be extremely dangerous, but by taking small steps to prepare, you can ensure that you and your family stay safe in the wake of a disaster," said EMA Director Joey Pelfrey. "I encourage our residents to implement safety measures at home and at work so they will be ready when severe weather strikes."

For example, officials said, now is the ideal time to check your NOAA Weather Radio to ensure that it is properly programmed andin working condition.

Most of these radios have the capability of remaining operational on battery power in the event of a power outage. Please check your batteries and replace if needed.

NOAA Weather Radios are the most reliable and effective warning systems for Severe Weather Notifications as the warnings are generated by NOAA National Weather Service forecast offices.

In addition, residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED, which is an emergency communication network providing high speed notification of emergencies in Paulding County. On Wednesday, when tornado safety is emphasized, residents, schools and businesses statewide are encouraged to participate in Ready Georgia’s statewide tornado drill.
