Paulding Teen Drowns Near Harvard University

Tyler Green, a recent high school graduate, was enrolled in a summer program at Harvard.

DALLAS, GA — A Paulding County teenager attending a summer course at Harvard University drowned while celebrating an end-of-school ritual at the prestigious school.

Tyler Green, 18, died Friday after jumping into the Charles River with friends, WSB-TV reported.

The leap is an end-of-school ritual at Harvard, the station reported.

Green's mother, Leonie Grant, told WSB that her son didn't know how to swim and may have misjudged how deep the water was in the river.

"I thank God for my son and I wish I had longer with him, but God's thoughts are higher than my thoughts and you know he had a plan," Grant said to the station.

Grant had just graduated from East Paulding High School in May. He was studying computer programming.
