Paulding Teen Shoots, Kills Mother's Ex-Boyfriend: Police

The alleged shooter told deputies there was a history of violence between him and the shooting victim.

DALLAS, GA — A Paulding County teen is in jail after authorities say he shot and killed his mother's ex-boyfriend.

Jordan Holt, 18, of Dallas, is being held on a charge of reckless conduct while Paulding County Sheriff's Office detectives investigate the details of the shooting.

At about 7:12 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to a 911 call to an address on Mt. Tabor Church Road in Dallas in reference to a domestic dispute with possible shots fired.

At about the same time, another 911 call reported a possible vehicle accident at the same address.

Once deputies arrived, they found a car that had crashed through a fence and came to rest against a tree.

In the car, they discovered the body of Justin McKenzie, 28, of Cartersville.

Witnesses identified Holt as the shooter. Deputies say Holt told them there had been a history of domestic violence between him and McKenzie, his mother's ex-boyfriend, over the past year.

Currently, Holt is being held in the Paulding County Detention Center without bond as detectives continue to investigate.
