Police: Hiram Man Killed in Wreck May Have Been Racing

Darnell C. Griffin, 29, was killed while riding his motorcycle in Marietta on April 23, Cobb County police say.

Police believe that a Hiram man who was killed while riding his motorcycle in Cobb County late last month may have been engaged in a street race at the time of his accident.

According to police, investigators have obtained information which purports that Darnell C. Griffin was racing another sport motorcycle when his green 2008 Kawasaki ZX600 collided with a white 2004 Kia Optima on April 23. Griffin was killed in the collision.

The driver of the Optima, 50-year-old Maria T. Howard of Marietta, was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital along with her 15-year-old daughter, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the collision. Both sustained non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators want to find out who was driving the second motorcycle which may have been involved with a race against Griffin. Anyone with information on this mystery motorcyclist is asked to contact police at (770) 499-3987.
