Rabies Alert Issued in Paulding County
A bobcat that tested positive for rabies tried to attack a dog and several people in Paulding County recently, authorities said.

DALLAS, GA — Paulding County authorities are warning pet owners and other residents to be on the lookout for rabies.
Paulding County Animal Control reports that, last Friday, a bobcat attempted to attack several people and a dog in the area of Braswell Road and Brushy Mountain Road. Tests later revealed the bobcat had rabies.
No people were bitten in the attack. The dog was hurt by the bobcat, but was current on its rabies shots.

This was the first positive test for rabies in Paulding County of 2017, according to animal control. Since 2005, there have been 35 positive cases reported in the county.
Pet owners are being urged to make sure their animals are current on their rabies vaccinations. And animal control urges everyone to stay away from wild animals such as raccoons, bats, skunks, foxes and bobcats — especially if they show no fear of humans.
