The first call to 911, made by the shooter, described an active shooter hiding in the woods causing him to be charged with making a false report. As a result, Duvall said, that children were evacuated from a school day care and put on a bus home. Others, from the pool area, were temporarily sheltered in a nearby building.

The two teens were parked in an SUV in a gravel parking lot, near the swimming pool, when the shooting happened.

Duvall said the two teens were target shooting earlier that day and that the 18-year-old had the gun in the SUV when they came to the park. Duvall said the gun apparently belonged to the teen's father.
