Veteran Investigator Christopher Retires From Sheriff's Office

Lt. Mike Christopher was a 42-year law enforcement veteran who specialized in major cases, including homicides.

DALLAS, GA — After a law enforcement career that spanned over four decades, a veteran lieutenant with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office has retired.

A retirement reception was held Friday for Lt. Mike Christopher. Christopher began his career with the Georgia Department of Revenue, where he worked from 1975-85. In 1985, he moved to the Marietta Police Department, where he worked until joining the Paulding County Sheriff's Office about 21 years ago.

During his time with the county, Christopher worked a short time as a deputy in the patrol division, before moving to criminal investigations. As a detective, then eventually a supervisor, he worked major cases, with at least some role in nearly every major case since then.

Colleagues say Christopher is considered a foremost expert in criminal investigations, particularly homicide investigations. They say he has trained countless detectives over the years and will be missed.

“Spanky, as he was affectionately referred to by his friends and coworkers, is someone that will be impossible to replace," said Sheriff Gary Gulledge. "His experience in criminal investigations, forensics, and the
criminal mind are that which you could compare to the foremost experts in the field. We are going to deeply miss him, however we wish him the best of luck on his much deserved retirement."

During his years in law enforcement, Christopher has been named Officer of the Year award at both the Marietta Police Department and Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.

Now, colleagues say, he will have plenty of time to enjoy life, spend time with his family, and keep up with his beloved Falcons and the Braves.
