At 5:07 p.m., Arnett began firing at deputies, authorities said.
Neighbors were evacuated and a perimeter was established around the scene as Paulding County's SWAT team was activated, along with law enforcement officers from Cobb and Douglas counties.
Once an armored vehicle arrived, officers were able to retrieve the three victims from 65 Pine Valley Dr.
Tear gas was used in an attempt to determine the shooter's whereabouts and, after no contact was made, officers sent a robot to investigate the area in and around 55 Pine Valley Dr.
That's when Arnett's body was discovered in the backyard.
Detectives learned that the Adams family was in the process of moving and had returned to their home to pick up some belongings when the shooting happened.
The attack was unprovoked, Paulding deputies say.
On Wednesday, Basnett had been through hours of surgery, with more expected. Annetta Adams' condition had improved and she was expected to be moved out of intensive care.
