Vigil, Memorial Planned for Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Deputy's Car

The accident, which killed Ashley Donaldson, 24, happened Thursday around 9:30 p.m. on Hiram-Douglasville Highway.

A vigil was scheduled Saturday night for the victim in Thursday’s fatal pedestrian accident involving a Paulding County Sheriff’s deputy.

The sheriff’s office said Ashley Donaldson, 24, died when she was struck by the deputy’s car around 9:50 p.m. Thursday on Hiram-Douglasville Highway.

WXIA-TV reported a candlelight vigil and memorial for Donaldson was planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ryan’s restaurant in Hiram.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy was en route to a low-priority call when the accident happened on Hiram-Douglasville Highway near Seaboard Street. Donaldson was crossing the highway close to the bridge near Seaboard when the accident happened.

“The Deputy was en route to a low priority call and was traveling at normal speeds according to witnesses,” PCSO Cpl. Ashley Henson said in a news release. “The Deputy did not have his emergency equipment activated at the time of the accident.”

Donaldson died later at Wellstar Paulding Hospital.

The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
