Woman Surprised With Huge Student Loan Payoff Check: WATCH
Liz Herlihy was having lunch at Starbuck's in Hiram when a man surprised her with a $50,000 check to pay towards her student loan.
HIRAM, GA — Cartersville resident Liz Herlihy was at lunch at Starbuck's in Hiram when a miracle happened. A man arrived with a $50,000 check and handed it to her to pay towards her student loan.
"The next thing you know I look up and Seth from Givling and Broc from LendKey were walking around the corner with a massive check in their hand," said Herlihy. "I was in complete shock and disbelief. Everything from that point forward is a little bit of a blur. I just started traveling for at least the next 15 minutes. You always hope that you have a shot and you always hope something like this can happen to you but you never truly believe that it will."
Is it real?

"I’ve spoken to the founder many times since then, said Herlihy. "I’ve provided her with the information for the loan I want the money to go towards. I can promise you they are 100 percent legit. What Givling and LendKey are doing is truly life changing. They may not have paid all of my loan but they have made such a huge dent in it I actually feel like I can get it paid off one day. I’ll always remember that day and I’ll never forget them! I’m trying to pay it forward by funding what they are saving me a month. I pay into the queue for the next person to have the surprise of a lifetime. They are an amazing group of people and I’m so excited to see where they go! "

Herlihy downloaded a trivia app.
"You can play free daily and you get points at the end of each round that are essentially entries into the random drawing," she said. "You can also get entries by watching different ads that they have on their app. They have random winners as well as chronological and I believe highest funders. Every time they accrue $100,000 there are two winners that each get up to $50,000. Since my student loans total more than the $50,000, I got the entire amount. If my student loans for less than that then they would pay them off in full and the remaining amount of the 50,000 but then go back into the queue for the next loan payoff. If you don’t have student loans you can get up to 25,000 towards a mortgage."
Since Herlihy downloaded the app in September, she said she played often throughout the fall and winter.
"You have to play 10 times in 30 days in order to qualify for the drawing. They drew the name of the winner which was obviously me," she said.
It was a surprise, but not out of the blue.
"For the week leading up to the surprise they were playing an elimination style game on Facebook by one by one taking out each state," said Herlihy. "They would also give intermittent clues on the winners name. If you look at their Facebook page you can see what I’m talking about. I think Wednesday night there were still about four states left and it wasn’t until Thursday morning that they announced that the winner was in Georgia. Even saying that the winner was in Georgia I still didn’t think that I had a very good shot as I’m sure there are a ton of players in the Atlanta area.
"That morning they posted that they had gone to the winner's house but they were not there," Herlihy continued. "He asked for help finding them and they posted that the winner lived in Northwest Atlanta. That was the first time that I actually got super excited and really thought that I had a chance. Honestly that was the moment that I became sick to my stomach thinking that there was really a shot it could be me. They asked those that were left, if they could message them on Facebook where they were going to be in the next hour. I sent them the Starbucks I was going to be at for my lunch."
The rest, as they say, is history.
