Alexander, Chapel Hill Students Fare Well in FBLA Competition

Students from Alexander and Chapel Hill High Schools attended the January meeting of the Small Business Committee of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce.
They were preparing for the Region competition of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club which was held that evening.

The Committee invited the FBLA students to come to the meeting to practice their presentation and speaking skill before the competition. The members provided valuable feedback to the students which helped them be successful in the competition.
As preparation for competition in the Emerging Business Issues event, Kaylah Oates-Marable and Justin Bell from CHHS gave a seven-minute speech to the Committee about the challenges facing brand-name companies as they face increasing competition from private-label brands. Justin and Kaylah went on to place 2nd in the Region and advance to the State competition in March.

Torri Saunders and Kwajalien Jones from AHS competed in the Business Presentations event at the FBLA conference and spoke to the committee about Identity Theft. They also went on to place 2nd in the Region competition.
Rosco Sayyer, a committee member and owner of Sam and Rosco’s and The Centre, said that it is a great experience to watch these presentations and to engage with the students in a questions and answers session. It is interesting to see how their young minds think and how they incorporate new technologies into their presentations. The self-confidence of these young entrepreneurs is a source of pride and joy to our community.
