CAC Features Youth Art Month

The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County launched the annual Youth Art Month at the Cultural Arts Center on Sunday, March 3. The exhibition celebrates the talents of children and young people in the Douglas County Schools, represented by more than 200 artworks created by students in kindergarten through twelfth grades and selected by their visual arts teachers. The reception is hosted by Friends of Arts and Music Education (F.A.M.E.), a CAC satellite organization. A special cake decorated with an image of art works on display has been created for the occasion by the Publix on Chapel Hill Road in Douglas County. The 2013 Youth Art Month reception is free and open to the public.

There will be receptions for two displays of student artworks selected by their art teachers in celebration of Youth Art Month. There will be a reception today at the Douglas County Board of Education, Gurley Road at Highway 5, will be offered from 6 until 7 p.m., and on Tuesday, March 5, a third reception is presented at the Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, from 4:30 until 6 p.m. Different works of art by Douglas County students are displayed at each site – parents should check with their children’s art teachers to learn which site is displaying their selected artworks.

The mission of the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is to nurture, guide and stimulate the enjoyment of and participation in the arts among Douglas County residents by providing an atmosphere conducive to the arts, broadening the spectrum of quality exhibits and performances available to the community, and fostering individual interactions with the arts through a wide range of satellite groups.The Cultural Arts Council and its exhibitions at the Cultural Arts Center are supported in part by the City of Douglasville, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, and the Georgia Council for the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
