The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County and the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer the 10th annual intensive arts camp Motion + Emotion+ Commotion at Deer Lick Park, from Monday, April 8, through Friday, April 12. Children, 7 through 11 years old, will explore a wide variety of art disciplines with five expert and experienced teaching artists – dance with Joi Jamison, African drumming with Mobasher Sobhan, drawing and painting with Tamara Morgan, sculptural books with Pam Beagle-Daresta, and paper crafts with Terumi Todd.

Campers (a total of 50 can be registered) are divided into five groups of ten by age. Camp begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. Early drop off (8:30 a.m.) and late pick up (5 p.m.) can be arranged at no additional fee with the Parks and Recreation staff. Fees for the week are $90 for this first child ($75 for CAC members) with a $5 dollar discount for siblings. Space is limited, so reservations must be made by calling the CAC at 770-949-2787. A limited number of scholarships are available with staff approval.

Daily schedule will include three art-making sessions, a morning and afternoon break (snacks provided by Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation) and lunch (provided by campers). Each artist will work with three groups each day and with each group twice on projects in their discipline. The final day will be spent at Deer Lick Park’s gymnasium on a camp project with everyone participating and on the display of works to be presented during the Celebration of Success, Friday, April 12, 5 until 6 p.m. Families and the community are invited to attend.
