Douglasville Fire Kills 73-Year-Old Man
Ulis Slay was a Vietnam War veteran and retired truck driver.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A 73-year-old man was killed in a house fire in Douglasville on Saturday, Douglas County officials say.
Ulis Slay, 73, was killed in the fire, according to Douglas County fire officials.
Slay's son was able to escape the blaze.

Firefighters say the fire started just before 9 a.m. Saturday on Western Piles Drive in Douglasville.
According to officials, neighbors noticed the fire and banged on the door, getting Slay's son to come outside. But the fire spread so quickly that neither the son nor the neighbors could get back in and save Slay, or his dog, they said.

The house was reportedly destroyed within minutes.
Family members told WSB-TV that Slay was a Vietnam War veteran and retired truck driver. The family told the station they think the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
