Douglasville Gas Prices: How Low Will It Go?

Crude oil price drops have local motorists seeing some of the lowest gas prices in nearly six years.

How low will it go?

The AAA said the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Georgia is below $2 for the first time in nearly six years.

Georgia became the 29th state with an average below $2 last Friday, the AAA said in its weekly fuel price brief. It’s the first time under $2 since May 2009.

“The gas price plunge is directly connected to declining global crude oil prices,” said Mark Jenkins, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Like pump prices, crude oil prices have posted multi-year lows due to global supply outpacing demand, which has kept downward pressure on the price of crude and ultimately meant hefty discounts in retail gasoline for U.S. drivers. The price of oil dipped again last week, meaning motorists could see even more discounts at the pump in the coming days.”

Crude oil prices have fallen more than $62 since the summer, AAA said.

“Gas prices will keep falling until the price of oil bottoms out,” said Jenkins. “It’s unclear when that will happen, but oil prices should remain relatively low through the first half of the year.”
