New Details On Douglasville Student Attacked At Bus Stop (ICYMI)

The student attends Chapel Hill Middle School and was able to successfully fight off the attacker Friday morning, officials say.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — New details have emerged in the attack Friday morning on a Douglasville student who was waiting at a school bus stop.

On Sunday, Douglas County Schools Superintendent Trent North released a statement identifying the victim as a student at Chapel Hill Middle School.

It was about 7:30 a.m. Friday when an unknown man attacked the child at the stop outside the Charlton Crossing subdivision, according to Douglasville Police. The student was able to fight off the attacker, North said.

The student was not seriously injured and there were no signs that it was an attempted sexual assault, the superintendent said. "It is troubling that this situation has occurred to one of our students," North said in the statement. "The safety of our students is our priority before, during and after school hours. We urge our parents and teachers to have a conversation with students about safety when walking to school and waiting for the school bus.

"Please use this opportunity to talk to them about strangers, being aware of their surroundings and walking with others when possible."

Also over the weekend, Douglasville Police released an artist's sketch of the suspect.

He is described as a man between 30-4o years old with facial stubble, unkempt, bushy hair and sideburns. He had a missing tooth and was last seen wearing a red shirt, a yellow jacket with a reflective green cross on it, dark colored pants and black shoes, one of which had a damaged sole.

The attacker is believed to have received an injury to his face or forehead during the attack, police said.
Chapel Hill Middle School parents and students in the neighborhood were made aware of the attack on Friday. Assistant principal Jamar Graham rode the bus home with students Friday and police have increasted patrols in the area.
