Rudy, Retired Douglas Sheriff's K-9 Officer, Dies

Rudy had quit working several years ago and gone to live with his handler.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Rudy, a retired member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office's K-9 unit, has died.

The unit announced Rudy's passing in a Facebook post.

The post did not give Rudy's age, but said he had retired from duty several years ago and, as is often the case with law-enforcement service dogs, had gone to live with his handler, Jim Mallore.

"Everyone please keep Jim and his family in prayers as they lost a loyal companion and part of their family!!" the post reads. "Rest in Peace Rudy!!!"

The posts had gotten more than 740 "likes" and 140 comments by Wednesday morning.

"Think of this beautiful service dog and family member now young and healthy and playing with other 4 legged angels," one Facebook user wrote. "Isn't that a beautiful sight? So sorry for your loss. RIP Rudy. Enjoy eternity."
