Sheriff's Office: 7 'Jury Duty' Scams Reported New Years Day
Callers say they are with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and you owe money for not appearing for jury duty.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, which alerted residents earlier this week of a phone scam involving callers posing as law enforcement, said it received seven complaints on New Years Day concerning “very threatening and intimidating” phone calls.
All posed as DCSO officers who demanded money from victims because they didn’t show up for jury duty.
Here’s the latest media alert sent by the agency at 11:08 a.m. Wednesday:

On January 1, 2015 the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received seven complaints throughout the day from citizens stating that they were receiving very threatening and intimidating phone calls from a male subject on two separate phone numbers (770-558-5860 and 770-558-5278) posing as Captain Tim Pounds and or Lieutenant William Lashley from our office.
The citizens all stated that the subject calling stated the same message by stating they had an active warrant for failure to appear for jury duty and that they needed to go and purchase a green dot card in the amount of $ 2,365.00 to pay a fine. The subject asked the citizen for their cell phone number so the subject could be in constant contact with them till the green dot card was purchased and activated so they could get the routing number from the card.
