Southwire To Create 60 Jobs, Spend $20M In Douglas County
The leading wire manufacturer plans to build a new distribution facility near its current operations in Villa Rica.

VILLA RICA, GA — Southwire, a wire and cable manufacturer, is expanding its operations in Douglas County in a move that officials say will create 60 new jobs.
The company plans to expand its distribution facilities in Villa Rica and has begun construction on a new, 400,000-square-foot center in the business park where its plant is currently located. The company will be investing about $20 million in the upgrade, according to the Douglas County Economic Development Authority.
"We are delighted to have a company like Southwire expand their operations with our county," said Ron Wilson, chairman of the development authority's board of directors. "It shows the commitment the company has to investing in the local area and as an international company, they continue to be satisfied with our workforce and business climate."

Kurt Hennelly, an executive vice president with Southwire, said the company expects to fill the 60 new jobs by 2019 or 2020.
"The addition of this new space fits well into the future plans for our logistics network, supports our Accelerate Growth corporate strategy and will provide us with the capability to better serve our customers," Hennelly said.

Douglas County Commission Chairwoman Romona Jackson-Jones called the expansion "a true testament this company is committed to service excellence as they continue to demonstrate a vested interest in advancing local economic opportunities."
Headquartered in Sandy Springs, Southwire calls itself North America’s leading manufacturer of wire and cable used in the distribution and transmission of electricity. One in three new homes in the United States contains wire made by Southwire, according to the company.
