Youth Art Month Exhibit Features Douglas County K-12 Students

The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County welcomes the annual Youth Art Month exhibit – which features K-12 student art from across Douglas County schools – back to its gallery.
The “2015 Youth Art Month (YAM): Make it Pop!” exhibit is on display from March 1st through the 27th.

The show will kick-off with a special opening reception at the CAC, hosted by the art teachers of Douglas County, on Sunday, March 1st from 2 until 4 p.m. The exhibit and opening reception is free and open to the public.
Youth Art Month emphasizes Douglas County’s educational institutions and how they help mold the next generation of the state’s artists. While YAM provides significant encouragement to students and well-deserved recognition for educators, the exhibit is more than just for the participating student, their families, and teachers.
This is an exhibit for the entire community to discover the emerging voices of Douglas County’s youth, while providing an opportunity to recognize the immense value of arts education in our schools.
National Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education and to encourage public support for quality school art programs. Art education provides students with important critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, in addition to fostering selfesteem, self-discipline, and an appreciation for the work of others.
The Youth Art Month exhibit celebrates and validates student achievement in the visual arts, and the Cultural Arts Council honors the talent and dedication of these young artists and their teachers.
YAM has been observed nationally since 1961, and this year the CAC is pleased to be one of three special YAM exhibit locations.
On Monday, March 2nd from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the celebration continues with a second reception at the Douglas County Board of Education, located off Gurley Road at Highway 5. On Tuesday, March 3rd, the final reception will take place at the Douglas County Court House, 8700 Hospital Drive, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Different works of art by Douglas County students are displayed at each site – parents should check with their children’s art teachers to learn which site is displaying their children’s artwork.
