Gwenevere McCord, 43, of Jonesboro, told Gwinnett Police Thursday that she and Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill were practicing “police tactics” when she was shot in the abdomen on May 3 in a model home on Britt Trail Drive near Tribble Mill Park.

Hill, 50, who has said little to authorities about the incident, was charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor.

McCord has been in the hospital since the shooting, but was able to give detectives a statement Thursday, Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said in a one-paragraph news release Friday afternoon.

“McCord claimed that Hill would never intentionally harm her,” part of the statement said.

McCord is an agent for Paran Realty and worked at the model home. She and Hill are reportedly friends.
