Armed Robbers Targeting Midtown Students

Students at Georgia Tech and Morehouse have been robbed in the past week, police say. Two of the robberies were allegedly at gunpoint.

Atlanta police are looking for leads in a spate of armed robberies of college students in the Midtown area over the past week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says.

The first such robberies took place last Wednesday and may have been pulled off by the same crew, said Georgia Tech police.

At 9:50 p.m., a white minivan pulled up to a student who was walking along Ferst Drive near the intersection with Cherry Street. An armed person exited the vehicle and demanded the student’s belongings. The van then left the area by traveling north on Fowler Street towards Tenth Street.

Once on Tenth Street, the minivan approached a man and woman who were walking east in the vicinity of Hemphill Avenue. Again, an armed person exited the vehicle and demanded the belongings of the students. Police say they are looking for three people, one as young as 12 years old, who were riding in a white Dodge Caravan with Georgia license plate BMW6987.

On Tuesday of this week, two Morehouse College students were robbed at Burruss Drive and Paschal Boulevard. A third person was robbed shortly thereafter on Westview Drive. Police have not indicated if the Tuesday robberies are related to one another or related to the robberies which took place last week.
