More From Cruise Ship Hit By Coronavirus Arrive In Marietta
The second wave of passengers from the Grand Princess cruise ship will be in quarantine for 14 days. They arrived Thursday near Atlanta.
MARIETTA, GA — The second group of passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship flew into Marietta’s Dobbins Air Reserve Base on Thursday. They will begin a 14-day quarantine, reports WXIA. More than 250 passengers had been quarantined off the coast of California due to the new coronavirus.
The first group from the cruise ship, which included 34 Georgians, arrived at Dobbins early Wednesday morning. They will be taken to their homes to self-quarantine. The air base is located at 1291 Cobb Parkway, which is about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta.

All passengers were medically screened by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says the news station. The CDC is responsible for the quarantine operation, according to Dobbins officials.
Procedures set by the Department of Health & Human Services are in place to transport anyone who becomes ill during the quarantine period to a local hospital, according to the Air Force Reserve. Dobbins Air Reserve Base employees won’t have physical contact with the passengers.

According to the state, there are 151 beds available at Dobbins and 190 beds at the National Guard center for the passengers.
Globally, more than 121,000 people have been infected and more than 4,300 people have died from the COVID-19, Johns Hopkins reported Tuesday. Of that total, more than 80,000 confirmed cases are in China, while the entire United States has 1,323 confirmed cases as of Thursday morning. Thirty deaths in the U.S. have been tied to the virus outbreak.
