GBI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting In Smyrna
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer involved shooting that happened Monday after a hostage standoff.

SMYRNA, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested on Monday by the Cobb County Police Department to look into an officer involved shooting that included a hostage.
At 9:45 a.m., Cobb Police went to Concord Crossing Apartments, 2935 Old Concord Road, regarding a 911 call of shots fired. Cobb County SWAT found a barricaded man in an apartment, with a reported second man being held hostage inside, the GBI said in a news release.
WSB-TV reported one man was seen throwing items off an apartment balcony, with a second man nearby with his wrists tied together.

An officer shot Robert Parks, 39, of Smyrna, who subsequently died from his injuries. Parks was armed with a gun, the GBI said.
The second man in the apartment was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.
The GBI will conduct an investigation. Upon completion, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
