The city expects to receive approximately $460,000 in property tax revenues.Β  Revenue received from property tax help offset services provided to all residents.Β

The City of Austell offers a Homestead Exemption which will give homeowners a $2,000 reduction in the assessed valuation of their homes.Β  Additionally, senior citizens, ages 65 and older, can apply for a full exemption. Homestead Exemptions may be filed any time of the year, but to qualify for the current year exemption, one must occupy the property by Jan. 1 and apply before April 1.Β  All applications filed or received after April 1 will be processed for the following year.Β  Even if a homeowner qualifies for any or all of the exemptions, he or she will not receive the exemptions for that year if the deadline is not met.Β  Applications postmarked by the due date will be accepted.

For more than a decade, City of Austell residents have paid a $1 monthly fee for stormwater management services. Because of increased federal, state and local mandates, this fee is no longer sufficient to support Austell's Stormwater Management program and services. On Aug. 12, 2010, the Mayor and Council approved an increase of $2 for all residents.Β

Rather than having to pay the Stormwater Utility fee each month, effective in October, a total of $36.00 will just be added to city tax bills.
