Friday Football Preview

Eagles streaking, Falcons slumping, Wolfpack winning again

basically locked up a playoff spot with a convincing win last week. Now, the Eagles have to finish the regular season strong, as they vie to keep third place in region 4-5A.has lost two straight and if they aren't careful, they could be eliminated from postseason contention with a loss this week. Whitefield vanquished their losing ways with a big win last week, ending a three-game losing streak. Each squad has something to play for and something to prove this week.

South Cobb at North Cobb

The Eagles have been playing really well over the last three weeks. Since losing to McEachern back on September 30, South Cobb has rattled off three straight wins, averaging 38 points per game in the process.

The defense shut out the Spartans in the first half. Brandon Watson came up with a big interception that led to a touchdown to put the Eagles up by 21 points.

When South Cobb has the offense and defense working together like that, they are hard to beat. This team is playing the best football of the year at the right time. North Cobb will find it tough to stop both Masha and Beck.

Prediction: South Cobb 31 North Cobb 24

Campbell at Pebblebrook

The Falcons won three in a row in the middle of the season, but have since fallen to 3-5, clinging to fourth place in region 4-5A. Pebblebrook was outplayed by undefeated Hillgrove last week, losing 41-25.

The defense was able to cause turnovers, but wasn't able to turn them into touchdowns. Pebblebrook caused five fumbles and two interceptions, but turned just one of the turnovers into touchdowns. The Falcons kicked two field goals and were stopped on the other four free possessions.

Quarterback C.J. Goodman had 15 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a 54-yard scoring strike to cut the Hillgrove lead to eight points in the fourth quarter. Then, he scored on a 52-yard run to make the score 27-25. However, two late Hillgrove touchdowns put the game out of reach.

Pebblebrook is in danger of not making the playoffs if they don't win this week against Campbell. Goodman has played so well this season and he should be able to lead the team to a win over the Spartans.

However, the showdown next week with South Cobb will probably determine the Falcons playoff destiny.

Prediction: Pebblebrook 21 Campbell 10

Our Lady of Mercy at Whitefield Academy

Both Whitefield and Strong Rock came into last week on long losing streaks. Something had to give, and luckily for the Wolfpack, running back Richard Sherrell was on their side.

Sherrell ran for a team-high 116 yards and scored a touchdown. It's a good thing that the Wolfpack's running game was strong, because quarterback Max Kemether had an off-day. He threw 6-for-12 for only 67 yards on the night.

Kemether made up for his quarterback play by intercepting a pass on defense, which gave the Wolfpack good field position and eventually led to a 20-yard touchdown pass by the junior.

The match-up against Our Lady of Mercy this week is a bit of a toss-up. The Bobcats have averaged 45 points per game in their four wins, but have given up an average of 39 points in their four losses. The Wolpack are trying to win a second straight game for the first time all season.

Prediction: Whitefield Academy 49 Our Lady of Mercy 42
